Role Responsibility The work of the library service is hugely rewarding and every day the front of house teams make a difference to the lives of their customers and local communities. Our five Mobile Libraries take our services out to communities in urban and rural areas across Kent. We are looking to recruit 2 x Mobile Library Driver/Customer Support Assistants on permanent relief contracts to help us run the service during periods of annual leave, sickness or any other circumstances where we may need a mobile library driver at short notice – some weekend working may be required. One of the positions available would support Maidstone and Northfleet mobile library routes, the other would support Dover, Ashford and Sturry routes (applicant preference will be discussed at interview). You will have good interpersonal skills, be confident working in a customer service role with the public and be able to undertake a diverse range of tasks. These will include issuing, returning and reserving books and other resources using our IT systems and working to a set timetable. Prior library experience isn’t essential – it’s much more important that you’re friendly, outgoing and approachable. The successful applicants will need to hold a full driving licence that has a part C1 and commercial experience in driving a 7.5 tonne vehicle. The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
