Project Engineering Manager – Major Infrastructure Projects (Contract)
Location: Manchester (3 days on-site minimum)
Duration: 6months+
Outside IR35 | 40 hours per week
We are supporting a leading consultancy in their search for an experienced Project Engineering Manager to join a major design delivery programme across nuclear, decommissioning, water, and transport infrastructure.
This is a contract-only opportunity, offering the chance to lead engineering teams on highly regulated, complex schemes within one of the UK’s most respected multi-sector consultancies.
The Role
As a Project Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the delivery of multidisciplinary engineering design from concept to detailed design stages. Your focus will be on technical compliance, stakeholder engagement, and assurance across large-scale infrastructure projects—particularly within process and high-hazard environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead multi-discipline engineering delivery across project lifecycle stages
2. Ensure full understanding of design scope, budget, programme and risk
3. Manage design interfaces across internal teams and supply chain
4. Provide commercial challenge to protect scope and control change
5. Coordinate engineering governance, safety and compliance processes
6. Report to senior leadership on engineering delivery performance
7. Support pre-construction activities, tenders and work-winning efforts
8. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvement initiatives
What You’ll Bring
9. Extensive experience leading design delivery on major infrastructure contracts
10. Knowledge of UK technical/regulatory standards and project controls (cost, risk, schedule)
11. Strong client-facing, leadership and coordination skills
12. Familiarity with civil/structural works and regulated environments (nuclear, chemical, water)
13. Process safety and quality-driven mindset
14. Ability to work a minimum of 3 days/week on-site in Manchester
15. Willingness to travel as required to client and partner locations
Qualifications
16. Degree in Engineering (essential)
17. SC clearance eligibility (essential)
18. Chartered Engineer (desirable)
19. APM qualification (desirable)
