SEMH Teaching Assistant – Specialist Secondary Provision
Full-time | Term-time only | September start | PAYE
Some young people need more than just lessons—they need connection, consistency, and someone who doesn’t give up on them.
We’re working with a small, specialist secondary school in North Tyneside that supports pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. They’re looking for a Teaching Assistant to join the team this September—someone steady, empathetic, and ready to build real trust with learners who’ve often found school challenging.
What you’ll be doing:
* Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
* Helping pupils regulate emotions, stay engaged, and feel safe in their school environment
* Assisting with behaviour support and learning routines, using trauma-informed strategies
* Supporting teachers with tailored resources, progress tracking, and pastoral care
* Contributing to a calm, consistent school culture where every pupil is seen and supported
You’ll be a great fit if you:
* Have experience working with children or young people with behavioural, emotional, or mental health needs
* Bring a calm, firm, and patient approach to challenging situations
* Are confident in using de-escalation and positive behaviour techniques (training available)
* Understand that small wins—like a full day in class or a positive interaction—can be huge
* Want to work in a setting where your support can change the direction of a young person’s life
Thrive trained? Fantastic. If not, we’ll cover the cost and get you up to speed.
