Head of Kitchen
Location: Retford, DN22 7QH
Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00am to 1:00pm (Term Time Only)
Salary: £13.27 per hour
Contract: Permanent
Weekly Hours: 23.45 hours
Setting: Working within a school environment
A Head of Kitchen is required to lead the catering service at a primary school in Retford. This role is vital in ensuring pupils receive high quality, nutritious meals in a clean, safe and welcoming environment. You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the kitchen and ensuring all food is prepared and served to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and prepare balanced meals in line with school menus and dietary requirements
* Supervise and support kitchen staff to ensure smooth service delivery
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen
* Monitor food stock levels and place orders to ensure availability of ingredients
* Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and health and safety procedures
* Liaise with school staff to coordinate meal times and accommodate special dietary needs
* Complete necessary paperwork including temperature checks, cleaning schedules and stock records
* Report any equipment faults or issues to the site team promptly

* Previous experience in a catering or kitchen management role, ideally within an educational setting
* Strong leadership and organisational skills
* Friendly and approachable with a positive attitude
* Reliable and hardworking with a commitment to high standards
* Able to work independently and manage a small team
* Knowledge of food hygiene and health and safety regulations
* Must hold an Enhanced DBS or be willing to obtain one
