Project Manager – Rail Infrastructure

Location: Suffolk-based, with hybrid working available

Closing date: 27th May 2025

Vacancy Overview

Are you seeking a rewarding role where your leadership and technical skills will drive meaningful progress on a nationally significant infrastructure project? Join our clients growing team working at the forefront of the UK’s transition to Net Zero. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to one of the country’s largest and most complex megaprojects — a project that will provide dependable, low-carbon electricity to millions of homes for decades to come.

As part of a major nuclear new build programme, our client is entering a dynamic phase of delivery. With planning approval secured and construction already underway, their focus is now on delivering infrastructure that supports long-term energy resilience, sustainability, and economic development.

About the Role

We're looking for a Project Manager to take ownership of key rail infrastructure projects within the Civils Programme's Associated Developments. This role is critical to the successful design and delivery of railway upgrades and new connections, enabling construction logistics and long-term operational efficiency.

You will lead cross-functional teams through the full project lifecycle—from investigation and design through to construction and handover. This includes managing safety, quality, cost, and schedule to meet programme goals and stakeholder expectations.

You’ll report to the Senior Project Manager – Rail and play a pivotal role in shaping and delivering complex rail solutions in collaboration with delivery partners, regulatory bodies, and local communities.

Key Responsibilities

* Define project scope and manage interfaces across the wider Civils Programme.
* Secure and manage skilled resources, ensuring appropriate qualifications and experience.
* Develop and implement integrated, multi-disciplinary plans aligned with project strategy.
* Act as a visible leader and representative in stakeholder engagements, including with Network Rail and local authorities.
* Monitor and manage progress, costs, and risks using project controls and Earned Value Management (EVM).
* Oversee the development and delivery of Level 3 schedules and ensure consistency with the master programme.
* Ensure delivery of all List of Deliverables (LOD) items and implement change control as required.
* Drive continuous improvement and capture lessons learned for future phases.
* Manage and assure contractor performance, including schedule, quality, safety, and commercial compliance.
* Foster strong working relationships across internal and external teams.

Project Scope Includes:

* Upgrades to branch lines and junctions with main rail routes
* Temporary railheads and construction rail links
* Track, signalling, and level crossing upgrades (delivered with Network Rail)

Essential Qualifications & Experience

* Proven success in delivering complex, multi-disciplinary rail projects, ideally within regulated environments.
* Strong experience in project lifecycle management—from design through to commissioning and handover.
* Familiarity with Network Rail standards and procedures (e.g., GRIP, AMP, DWWP).
* Demonstrated ability to manage cost, risk, change, and quality using industry-standard tools.
* Experience managing contracts and suppliers under NEC or FIDIC terms.
* Skilled at stakeholder engagement across technical, governmental, and community groups.
* Chartered status in a relevant engineering, construction, or project management discipline.
* Proficient in Microsoft 365, scheduling and document management systems, BIM, GIS tools.
* Working knowledge of CDM Regulations and railway safety standards (PTS qualification required).
* Strong presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.

Desirable:

* French language skills
* CSCS certification

This role offers a unique chance to be part of a transformative infrastructure development that will play a critical role in the UK’s clean energy future.
