Overview
London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) is offering a Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSP) role. This is being offered as a secondment or fixed term post initially. Training and support will be provided to develop autonomous practitioner skills to support career development within GI Nursing.
The post is open to individuals wishing to develop specialised GI nursing skills, with a focus on disorders of the lower gastrointestinal tract arising from the bowel cancer screening programme. The SSP will undertake assessment, education and counselling where appropriate.
Responsibilities
* Provide SSP/nursing contributions within the bowel cancer screening service in accordance with local and national specifications.
* Manage disorders of the lower GI tract arising from the bowel cancer screening programme; undertake assessment, education and counselling as appropriate.
* Work closely with the Lead SSP, other SSPs, the endoscopy team, colorectal team, pathology, radiology and cancer services within the trust; maintain a clinical commitment to the bowel cancer screening centre.
* Deliver services across one or more locations and participate in weekend rotations to ensure full service flexibility to screening populations.
* Integrate, communicate, support and act as a role model to a wide multi-disciplinary group in a centre of excellence.
* Contribute to both FOBT and Lynch Screening Service as part of the local service provision.
* Be involved in collaborative working with satellite screening locations and other endoscopy units to ensure delivery of the screening service.
* Attend and complete national training and education courses as required to ensure competency.
* Operate within the job plan and weekly sessional commitments as defined for screening centres.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Experienced nurse with ability to work within a diverse team and demonstrate autonomous decision making, in line with NMC requirements.
* Strong communication, integration and support skills with a wide multi-disciplinary group.
* Additional language skills are useful but not essential.

Additional Information
The role involves collaborative work with SSPs and other endoscopy units in satellite locations to ensure delivery of the screening service. The SSP is supported by the Lead SSP, Senior SSPs, Clinical Programme Manager and (non-clinical) Programme Manager.
