Water Land and Biodiversity Asset Management Officer - 34202 Water Land and Biodiversity Asset Management Officer - 34202 Number of jobs available 1 Region South East City/Town Welwyn Garden City Building/Site DEFRA GRP EA ALCHEMY, AL7 1HE Grade Staff Grade 4 Post Type Permanent Role Type Operational Delivery Working Pattern Full Time, Part Time Salary Minimum £34,320 Closing Date: 21/05/2026, 23:55 hours Job description attachment 1 Candidate pack Security checks level Basic Check Job description The Water Land and Biodiversity (WLB) asset team manage the whole lifecycle of our WLB assets, i.e., from planning and delivery, through to upkeep and eventual decommissioning. This job is a mixture of field and office-based work, ranging from asset inspections and on-site maintenance, to planning, scheduling, and reporting. Co-ordinate the delivery of relevant key performance indicators (KPIs) for public safety (PSRA), Asset Cataloguing, Asset Inspections, and working with other members of the team to ensure compliance. • Assist with the in year and future programme of maintenance to ensure that WLB assets that support technical functions (i.e., H&T asset maintained by H&T) are maintained to an agreed target condition and ensure this is input to Asset Information System in line with the relevant deadlines and guidance. • Working with the Grade 5 Advisor to deliver projects, and ensure our WLB assets are safe to operate and maintain, in accordance with CDM principles. Where necessary, an appropriate CDM role will be undertaken relevant to the specific task or project, compiling, and reviewing pre-construction information as required. Ensure all necessary legal, statutory, and environmental permits. • Assist the programme of PSRA Assessments and T98 Asset Inspections across the WLB asset portfolio. • Run reports to retrieve defects, actioning and closing them down in the Asset Management system. This might involve organising quick fixes as well as packaging non-routine works into projects to be entered onto the Medium-Term Plan (MTP). Liaise with Grade 5 advisor, internal and external teams to develop solutions to below required condition assets. • Co-ordinate specialist inspections required for WLB maintained assets e.g., structural engineering inspections, CCTV Surveys, Asbestos surveys, fire safety and legionella. The team It's an exciting time for WLB AM as the organisation changes towards a one business Asset Management approach. The team currently manages assets on behalf of WLB teams playing a core role from planning and delivery, through to upkeep and eventual decommissioning. We ensure these assets are safe and operate to perform the function for critical business needs whilst keeping the safety of the teams and the public at the forefront of what we do. Experience/skills required We are not seeking specific qualifications for this role. It's more important to us that you are enthusiastic, have a can-do attitude and a passion for delivering work to a high standard and use initiative. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working outside, in all conditions. Whilst relevant work experience would be an advantage (engineering, project and asset management, data management, health & safety), it's less important to us than your ability to demonstrate key transferable skills and personal qualities (please see competency questions below). You must be a confident and effective communicator, both written and verbal, who can work with both internal or external partners. The role is based in Hertfordshire / North London from our Welwyn Garden City office and there will be a requirement to travel frequently to sites within this catchment area. Competence 1 Takes Decisions and Solves Problems Description Finds and delivers optimal solutions by effectively analysing all the information, probing to develop alternatives and taking sound and timely decisions.
