As a Ranger, you’re a champion of nature conservation and the great outdoors, and you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the nation’s beloved countryside and coast in good shape, for wildlife and for people.
You'll report to a Lead Ranger and work 37.5 hours per week, across 5 days. Currently this role does not include weekend working. you may be required to work some bank holidays.
What it's like
You'll join a busy ranger team based at Mottisfont Abbey, ensuring the places we care for are presented at their best. We take pride in the special qualities of these places and their meaning to our visitors and communities, working hard to protect them. We manage 6000 acres of Hampshire countryside, across a diversity of internationally important habitats, including butterfly rich chalk downland, world renowned chalk stream, ancient and plantation woodlands, saltmarsh tidal estuary, heathland, wood pasture and mire systems. These habitats need consistent care to ensure their protection, enhancement, and proper management of visitor access and recreational impact.

What you'll be doing
You’ll be supporting our operational focus upon tree safety and outdoor furniture, together with practical maintenance and habitat management. You'll have knowledge and experience in machinery and tools, their operation, servicing and repair.
You may be involved in species surveys, tree planting projects, river restoration works, PAWS felling – the work is varied and plentiful! We have a range of forestry machinery and plant equipment, so experience and knowledge in their use and maintenance would be highly beneficial. You’ll enjoying working as part of a team alongside Rangers and volunteers, whilst completing some tasks on your own.
You’ll ensure that the conservation work and outdoor experiences on the land in your care are of the highest standard. You’ll build relationships in the local community, proudly representing the Trust and letting people know about the work we are doing.
Who we're looking for
* Experienced in conservation work, to protect and improve habitats and landscapes
* Experienced in land-management, access and conservation, and working outdoors with a thorough approach to health and safety including risk assessments
* Happy to talk to all kinds of people about the work you’re doing, and why it matters
* Can use machinery and equipment, including chainsaws, brush cutters, PA6, tractors and timber cranes with relevant certificates
* Hard-working and willing to learn
* A driver, with a full UK driving licence
