Financial Accountant – Contract (Public Sector)
6‑month contract | Aberdeen (Hybrid) | Inside IR35 | Competitive day rate
Search are supporting a public‑sector organisation with the urgent appointment of an experienced Financial Accountant to support statutory reporting, audit and balance sheet assurance during a critical set‑up phase.
This is a hands‑on position suited to a senior accountant who is comfortable operating in a high scrutiny environment, working closely with auditors and senior stakeholders.
If you’re a senior Financial Accountant or reporting focused Finance Manager who enjoys delivery, autonomy and working in evolving environments, you would be encouraged to apply.
What you’ll be responsible for:
* Leading preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts
* Acting as the main point of contact for external auditors
* Owning and assuring the balance sheet, including reconciliations and controls
* Supporting development of accounting and financial policies
* Overseeing cash management, VAT and tax reporting
* Reviewing month‑end journals and balance‑sheet reconciliations
* Contributing to process improvements and counter‑fraud activity
What we’re looking for:
* Strong technical financial accounting experience (IFRS)
* Proven delivery of year‑end accounts and audit liaison
* Experience in organisations subject to public or regulatory scrutiny
* Confident producing accounting papers and advising on accounting treatment
Desirable:
* Central government or wider public‑sector experience
