About Hospitality Apprenticeship Scotland
The Programme
This exciting apprenticeship opportunity has been developed by a group of leading
Scottish hospitality providers to offer a clear career development route for young
people in the region looking to make hospitality their career of choice.
A group of leading hotels have come together to create a world-class, industry-led
hospitality apprenticeship programme. This unique programme inspires, nurtures and
develops the next generation of highly skilled talent for the hospitality Industry in Scotland.
The Hospitality Apprenticeship Scotland programme offers a clear career route to
young people while preparing them for further leadership roles within this diverse and
growing industry.
Programme Content
The employers have worked together to agree the content of the programme to ensure
it meets the needs of the industry and the apprentices and includes the following –
* Programme to be run over 24 months with 6 months in each of the following departments: Housekeeping, Front Office, F&B Restaurant/Bar, and Kitchen.
* Flexibility of content within a structured framework.
* The Learning Bites introduced throughout to enhance learning:
1. Involvement in skill development
2. Increased knowledge of sector and skills required
3. Visits to tourist venues to increase knowledge for guest support
4. Sector specific learning
5. E-learning opportunities
6. Hospitality experience provided by employers
7. Meta skills introduced to ensure skills for the future developed
8. Available technology used to develop skills and enhance learning. E-portfolios to
be used by all apprentices
9. Nationally certificated qualification, SVQ in Hospitality Services level 5
10. Learning journey on graduation to learn from leaders in hospitality
Apprentice profile
The most important attribute required is a willingness to learn: this is more important
than previous qualifications. Within hospitality a bright, enthusiastic and professional
attitude is the way to succeed.
Although there is no specific qualification requirement basic communication, literacy,
numeracy and IT basic skills required.
Apprentices must be over 16 and under 25 years of age at start date.
Work trials are encouraged prior to the apprenticeship with the chosen employer. n fact the
apprentice could be an existing employee.

You must already have the right to work in the UK, be a resident of Scotland and have a National Insurance number to be considered for this programme.
