The Environment Agency is committed to fostering an inclusive workforce that reflects the diverse communities we serve. We actively seek, embrace, and live diversity for the benefit of our staff, communities, and environment.
This role offers an opportunity to utilize your analytical skills to improve our environment and advance circular economy initiatives through a new Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) for plastic bottles and cans. The introduction of the DRS marks a significant step toward ending the throwaway society and cleaning up Britain.
You will lead data analytics efforts to support the implementation and development of the DRS regime. Your work will ensure that data collected is robust, accurate, and effectively used to assess fraud risk, monitor compliance, and inform policy decisions.
By leveraging data, you can help streamline collection processes, reduce waste, and transform discarded items into valuable resources.
You will collaborate with colleagues across the Environment Agency, Defra, devolved administrations, and industry stakeholders to translate policy into operational systems. Your role involves analyzing data to develop dashboards, reports, and models to support enforcement and monitoring of the scheme, including:
* Working with policy, digital, and regulatory teams to shape the DRS digital infrastructure and ensure data quality.
* Providing expert analytical insights to inform decision-making across the agency and with government partners.
* Helping define and improve data governance and reporting standards for the scheme.
Developing a comprehensive understanding of the DRS regime is essential, with opportunities to explore other producer responsibility regimes.
Team and Culture: You will join our Producer Responsibility Team, which leads waste regulation reforms to help conserve resources and minimize waste. Our team promotes a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture that values evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation.
Experience and Skills Required: Please demonstrate in your responses:
* Ability to work effectively with diverse backgrounds and cultures, encouraging diversity in your work.
* Outstanding data and information management skills with meticulous attention to detail.
* Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex data into clear, plain English to influence outcomes.
* Ability to build trust and respectful relationships with stakeholders.
Desirable experience includes:
* Proficiency in R or Python (or similar) for data analysis.
* Experience working in agile environments with digital systems.
Training and development opportunities will be provided.
