We are excited to advertise the position of occupational therapist to work at Royal Hampshire County Hospital within our elective orthopaedic therapy team. This post will include working in our state-of-the-art Orthopaedic Centre in Winchester, scheduled to open in August 2025. This new facility is a testament to our Trust’s ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare services in the region and working collaboratively with orthopaedic services across Hampshire and Isle of Wight to serve patients across our communities.

Main duties of the job

* Work in the new Hampshire Orthopaedic Centre (HOC) at Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH), Winchester, and within the established elective orthopaedic therapy service at RHCH, collaborating with orthopaedic surgeons from across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, and other MDT members.
* Support the team by supervising junior staff, therapy support workers, and students.
* Support clinics such as patient education and elective arthroplasty follow-up clinics.
* Lead and oversee pre-operative therapy assessments, ensuring patients' home environments are prepared for elective hip and knee surgeries. Supervise therapy technicians to facilitate timely assessments.
* Participate and lead in in-service training programs for the team and wider MDT.
* Support the orthopaedic therapy team across sites when required.
* Contribute to service development, quality improvement, and other projects within the department and Trust.
* Deputise for the team lead during their absence.
* Participate in the weekend rota.
* Work autonomously, using your analytical and clinical reasoning skills to optimize patient recovery and discharge planning. Provide guidance on returning to daily activities, including self-care, mobility, work, and leisure.

* Occupational Therapy Qualification
* HCPC Registration
* RCOT Membership

Experience

* Experience in an inpatient setting
* Proven safe practice
* Ability to manage own workload autonomously
* Supervising and supporting junior staff

Skills

* Effective written communication skills
* Full UK manual driving licence
* Access to own vehicle with business insurance
