Job Description:
We are looking for a qualified Solicitor with substantial experience in this area of law and practice. This role offers an opportunity to develop and enhance your skills while undertaking quality and varied work.
You will work as part of a team of Contract Lawyers, providing proactive legal advice on issues such as Public Contract Regulations, Company law, Subsidy Control, NEC and JCT construction Contracts, and general contract queries. You will handle a full, varied, and demanding caseload.
Senior Lawyers participate actively in team management and may deputise for the Principal Solicitor, contributing to the delivery of first-class legal services.
If you are an effective, dynamic individual with experience in managing and supervising people, and can motivate others while working in a team, we want to hear from you!
Shortlisting Criteria
To be considered, your application should clearly demonstrate:
* You are a Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEX, eligible to practice in England and Wales with a current practicing certificate.
* Experience in negotiating and drafting construction contracts, service agreements, and facilities management services.
* Ability to provide solutions-focused advice and learn quickly about new subjects.
* Effective teamwork, managing priorities to meet statutory deadlines.
* Leadership and organizational skills in client and project meetings.
* Experience advising Members and Senior Officers of the Council.
The role is hybrid; remote work will be considered. Occasional office attendance may be required, and the candidate will need to collect their laptop from our Reigate office on the first day.
This role involves managing a group of lawyers, providing leadership, supervision, and expert legal advice to the County Council, its members, officers, and committees.
The role contributes to the wider management of Legal Services, modeling the council's values and behaviors.
You will manage a demanding caseload, delivering innovative solutions with minimal supervision.
The role supports the Council's aim to reduce reliance on external legal support and may involve advocacy work.
You will assist the Monitoring Officer in advising the Council on illegalities or procedural defaults.
The role includes training staff to stay updated on legal issues.
