Technical Team Manager – Infrastructure & Support

We’re working with a long-standing IT and services integrator in the defence and national infrastructure space, and they’re looking for a Technical Team Manager to take the reins of a high-performing support team delivering end-to-end user and infrastructure support across secure enterprise environments.
This role blends service desk management, stakeholder collaboration, and technical team leadership across a wide-ranging infrastructure stack. It’s an ideal opportunity for an experienced senior engineer or team lead ready to move into a people-focused management role—without losing touch with the technical heartbeat of the organisation.
You’ll lead an 11-strong team of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Line Engineers, manage KPIs and workflows, and shape team development while supporting internal improvement and automation initiatives using tools like Microsoft Service Center and SCOM.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead and develop a diverse IT support team across 1st–3rd Line functions
• Oversee daily operations and service desk workflows, enforcing SLAs and KPIs
• Drive automation through ITSM tooling and continuous improvement initiatives
• Represent the team in Change Advisory Boards and incident escalation reviews
• Coordinate software release and patch management cycles
• Track performance metrics, write management reports, and participate in recruitment and staff development
Key Skills & Expertise
• Proven experience in IT support and infrastructure environments
• Familiarity with Microsoft Server 2019, Active Directory, Exchange, and virtualisation (VMWare/Horizon)
• High-level knowledge of network technologies (Cisco/Juniper), patching tools (ePo/Trellix), and ITIL-aligned service delivery
• Comfortable mentoring junior engineers and leading performance reviews
• Strong documentation, reporting, and people-management skills
Desirable Skills
• SharePoint, Windows 10, MDM, Linux, or DII/PDR background
• Experience with SCOM or SQL-based reporting
• Exposure to software deployment or endpoint management
The Package
• Up to £48,000 base salary
• SIS performance bonus – up to 5%
