Job Description — Foreman / Supervisor Mechanical Fitter
Hours: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (Saturday mornings as required)
Reports to: Workshop / Operations Manager
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Foreman / Supervisor Fitter in our Washington workshop. This is a hands-on role combining technical knowledge with team leadership, ensuring all mechanical works are delivered safely, on time and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Operational
• Carry out and lead mechanical fitting and maintenance on heavy construction and mining plant.
• Perform mechanical assembly, disassembly of HGV's, agricultural machinery, excavators, bulldozers, dump trucksmachinery
• Ensure all work meets manufacturer specifications and safety regulations.
Supervision & Leadership
• Supervise and mentor fitters and trackshop operatives.
• Allocate daily workloads and prioritise jobs.
• Monitor quality, productivity and safety compliance.
• Provide coaching and technical guidance.
Safety & Compliance
• Maintain a safe workshop and site environment.
• Conduct toolbox talks and risk assessments.
• Ensure maintenance records are accurate and up to date.
Communication
• Coordinate with operations and management teams.
• Liaise with customers or site supervisors when required.
• Report progress, delays or technical issues promptly.
Person Specification
Essential
• Proven experience as a Fitter in heavy plant, mining or construction environments.
• Experience working on HGV's, agricultural machinery, excavators, bulldozers, dump trucks
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Strong diagnostic and mechanical repair skills.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
Desirable
• Experience with hydraulics, welding or fabrication.
• Workshop-based heavy plant repair experience.
