LIDAR Robotics Software Engineer (Autonomy / SLAM) – Oxford – permanent
SPONSORSHIP AVAILABLE FOR THIS ROLE
About the Company and Role
We are a growing, well-funded business developing real-world robotic systems that can map, navigate, and operate autonomously within 3D warehouse environments to optimise layout, locate stock and minimise damage.
Our technology is used in practical environments where reliability and accuracy matter
This role focuses on building the core software that allows robots to understand their position and surroundings
You will work with modern tools, including ROS 2, C++, Python, and LiDAR-based systems. The position involves both development and occasional hands-on deployment in real environments
The role is a full-time, permanent role located within our Oxfordshire facility. We may be able to consider some limited hybrid working, although this will be limited because of the necessity to work on the robots themselves
What You Will Do
* Develop and maintain software for robot localisation and mapping (SLAM)
* Work with LiDAR data to improve navigation accuracy
* Build and optimise odometry and mapping algorithms
* Use ROS 2, C++, and Python to create robust, scalable systems
* Integrate data from multiple sensors (e.g. LiDAR, IMU, cameras)
* Collaborate with engineering and deployment teams
* Support real-world testing and field deployments when required
What You Will Need
* Experience with SLAM, localisation, or robotics perception systems
* Strong programming skills in C++ and/or Python
* Familiarity with ROS or ROS 2
* Previous experience of LiDAR or similar sensor-based systems, ideally not in mainstream automotive, unless you can provide a bridge on technologies and applications
* Experience working in a Linux environment
* Knowledge of working with real-world sensor data
Nice to have:
* Experience with SLAM frameworks (e.g. Cartographer, LOAM, LIO-SAM)
* Understanding of sensor fusion or state estimation
* Experience with point cloud processing (PCL, Open3D)
* Experience integrating multiple sensors
* Evidence of practical work (projects, deployments, or open-source contributions)
What You Will Get
* Sponsorship if required.
* A salary to suit the individual’s experience and needs
* A role that offers innovation and independence
* Opportunity to work on real-world robotics systems, not just simulations
* A role with high technical ownership and impact
* Exposure to modern robotics tools and technologies
* A collaborative and engineering-focused environment
* Opportunity to see your work deployed in live operational environments
* Occasional travel for hands-on deployment and testing
