Description**
We are seeking an inspiring Duty Engineering Manager to lead a multiskilled engineering team, including technicians, team leaders and contractors. In this pivotal role, you will drive safety, performance, standards, and efficiency, ensuring all work meets company, statutory, and environmental requirements. You will oversee key operational measures such as safety, asset reliability, people leadership, contractor supervision, and stakeholder management within a regulated and unionised environment. Your leadership will ensure a high‑quality, reliable service for passengers, tenants, and internal customers by maximising system availability and exceeding KPIs. As the primary point of contact for stakeholders, you will place customers at the heart of decisions, continuously improving service delivery and making every journey better.
Shift Pattern: Monday- Thursday: 8pm- 6am [Permanent night shift]
Responsibilities
* Lead, manage, mentor, support and develop a multiskilled team (technicians, team leaders), ensuring performance reviews, training, development, resource coordination, and adherence to company policies, procedures, and budget controls.
* Ensure team competence and capability, managing skills mix, training, and future workforce requirements, while overseeing compliance with statutory standards, regulations, and timely completion of inspections across all engineering and facilities activities.
* Drive asset performance and standards, proactively improving KPIs, service levels, building fabric, welfare facilities, and overall presentation through inspections, continuous improvement, and best‑practice maintenance.
* Lead safety, quality, and environmental management, overseeing Fire, H&S, incident/risk processes, briefings, toolbox talks, risk assessments, hazard reporting, permit and access systems, and fostering constructive union relationships.
* Manage asset management processes and stakeholder relationships, applying whole‑life asset principles, supporting operational demands, representing engineering at operational meetings, and ensuring strong internal/external collaboration.
* Support operations, projects, and continuous improvement, ensuring planned/reactive work meets time, cost and quality targets, driving innovation, reviewing and improving procedures, ensuring safe project handovers, and deputising for operational leadership when required.
Qualifications
* Proven team leadership experience in a technical or engineering environment.
* NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, ONC/HNC, accredited apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in an appropriate engineering discipline.
* Full UK driving licence (desirable) and ability to obtain and maintain airside licences and permits.
* Ability to meet all pre-employment requirements, including security vetting, referencing, medical assessment, and drugs & alcohol testing.
* Fully assessed knowledge of relevant regulations and standards, with completion of all required skills training.
* IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) accreditation (desirable).
