At RL-a, our work is shaped by a commitment to Passive House design, retrofit, circularity, and the beauty of natural materials. Our commitment to sustainable design doesn’t mean compromise for us - thoughtful, beautiful design is what inspires everything we do.

We celebrate inclusivity, diversity, and have a strong internal value system where everyone is treated as individuals and with thought and care, as we are first and foremost, a people-led studio.

You’ll gain hands‑on experience across live projects, from retrofit to new build, residential to commercial, all grounded in a design ethos that places environmental responsibility and the climate emergency at its centre.

The role

* Full‑time, hybrid position
* Minimum 2–3 days per week in our Margate studio
* Involvement across live residential and commercial projects, with a focus on sustainable, circular design, retrofit and Passive House principles
* 3 month probation period, following that a full‑time position

What we’re looking for

* Architect, 2 years post qualification.
* Experience of project delivery in the UK, including RIBA Stages 4+
* Strong design and technical skills, with interest in low‑energy design and sustainable materials
* Proficiency in Microstation, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Excel software

We’re looking for someone who will…

* Brings creativity, detail, and rigour to their design work
* Is passionate about low-energy buildings, retrofit, circularity and natural materials
* Has the technical grounding and software skills to contribute meaningfully to projects
* Enjoys working collaboratively in a small, design-driven team
* Excellent communication and inter-personal skills, aware of strengths and weaknesses, strong time management.
* Confidence in both client facing and internal presentations.
* Ability to plan your work effectively to meet project deadlines and can both lead as well as support the team as a team player.
* Collaborative and detail-oriented.

If you’re ready for the right opportunity to be a valued voice within an established practice, demonstrating strong values and with interesting projects, this will give you a place to grow with us.

This role offers the scope to deepen your experience within a progressive, design-led practice, and you will be delivering projects from inception to completion.

Salary will be dependent on experience, based on previous salaries and discussed openly with the applicant.

Please send your CV and sample portfolio in a pdf format to info@rl-a.co.uk

With a brief cover letter and contact details for 2 professional references.
