Overview

As part of Hertfordshire CYPMHS transformation, our priority is to increase access and availability of mental health and well-being support for children and young people. Driven by this goal and in line with NHS long term plans, we have exciting new opportunities for Supervisors to work at the forefront of innovation in Children's and Young People’s Mental Health and to play an instrumental role in a forward-thinking service delivering interventions into schools and other settings in Hertfordshire. This role includes duties that involve operational management in support of the Team Leader as well as clinical activity.


Main duties

* Support the Team Leader to contribute to the team with a dynamic mental health team in a creative environment where evidence-based interventions, new ideas, ways of working and supporting children and young people are actively encouraged.
* Be flexible, dynamic and passionate about working with children and young people in educational settings, while motivating, inspiring and supporting the team to do the same.
* Operationalise the delivery of evidence-based interventions within Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) in schools and colleges while providing supervision for EMHPs.


Supervisors will be a graduate qualified health care professional and will:

* Have some level of formal CBT training (e.g. CYP-IAPT).
* Have previous consolidated post-graduate experience of working with young people with emotional and mental health issues.
* Have completed the HEE Postgraduate Diploma in Education Mental Health Practice or the HEE Postgraduate Certificate Children\'s Wellbeing Practice with significant post-qualification practice.
* Have experience delivering evidence-based CBT interventions for mild to moderate mental health issues such as anxiety, low mood and behavioural challenges to CYP and parent/carers, both individually and in groups.

* Salary: £40,617 to £48,778 per year, pro rata (5% HCAS included)

Job Description

Job responsibilities include working in schools closely with school staff to support CYP, their families and staff to foster a whole school approach to mental well-being, with travel within the locality and occasionally across Hertfordshire to attend training.


The Supervisors Will Play a Key Role In:

* Forming strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
* Providing consultations to education colleagues and supporting education settings to embed a whole school approach to wellbeing.
* Developing and delivering evidence-based time-limited interventions to young people within education settings.
* Evidencing the outcomes of the MHST service.
* Providing clinical supervision to trainee and qualified Education and Mental Health practitioners.


Person Specification

Essential

* Training & Qualifications: Core post graduate training in provision of low intensity CBT (e.g. CWP /CYP-IAPT) plus post-qualification experience; Postgraduate Certificate in Child and Young Persons Psychological Wellbeing Practice; Postgraduate Diploma for Educational Mental Health Practitioner (EMHP programme).

Desirable

* Accredited CBT qualification; professional registration in a relevant subject; post-graduate training in mental health; continued professional development; mentor/practice educator/supervision training.

Experience

* Significant post-qualification experience in relevant settings; experience of assessing young people with acute mental health presentations; experience with emotional/psychological difficulties and challenging behaviour; safeguarding knowledge; multi-ethnic community experience; experience in teaching/training and peer supervision.

Knowledge

* Knowledge of legislation related to children and adolescents\' mental health and safeguarding; awareness of government initiatives and current developments in mental health provision for young people; ability to apply research to practice; ability to facilitate clinical supervision.

Skills & Aptitude

* Deliver care with respect, dignity and recovery focus; clinical assessment skills; risk assessment; community/educational settings therapy skills; autonomous working capability; manage stressful situations with families and staff.

Communication

* Effective oral and written communication of complex information to service users, families, carers and professionals; sensitive communication with children/adolescents; flexible to work across service boundaries; liaising with other agencies; managing organisational stress.

Other

* Car driver (unless prevented by a disability); ability to travel independently across the Trust; willingness to work outside office hours when required.
