MGI Engineering Ltd is seeking a Composite Design Engineer to join our highly skilled team delivering cutting-edge solutions across the aerospace, automotive, motorsport, and marine sectors.

About the Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Composite Design, the successful candidate will be supported by an experienced and collaborative team, but is expected to be motivated, driven, and proactive. We are looking for someone detail-oriented who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys solving engineering challenges with creativity and precision. The ideal candidate will be skilled in CAD modelling NX (preferable) or Catia with experience in conceptual and detailed design of both composite and metallic components.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and CAD modelling of composite components.
* Analysing and interpreting customer requirements.
* Preparation of detail designs and laminate books.
* Interaction with Aerodynamic and Stress departments to ensure full compliance with concept intent and structural integrity.
* Continuous development of designs and process to keep best practices.
* Fully compliant with the company quality standards AS 9100D.
* Supporting the Test team as required to explore and validate technical solutions.
Basic Qualifications and Experience
* HND, BEng, or equivalent in Mechanical, Automotive, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
* Minimum 4 years’ experience working in a relevant industrial environment.
* Proficient user of NX11 or Catia V5 or V6.
* Working knowledge of CAD surfacing tools and procedures.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
* Understanding of manufacturing techniques of composite components and tooling.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
* Clear communicator—both written and verbal—and comfortable reporting to multi-disciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
* Background in motorsport, particularly Formula One or other high-performance sectors.
* Familiarity with composite testing or environmental/mechanical durability validation.
* Knowledge and experience of pre-preg and infusion laminating techniques.
* Knowledge and experience of Additive Manufacturing techniques.
* Hands-on experience with composite materials.
* Experience in a lean, fast-paced development environment.
* Awareness of relevant quality assurance standards (e.g. AS9100, ISO 9001).
