Job Purpose Reporting to the Wissington Science Manager, you’ll lead day-to-day laboratory support and technical reporting across Wissington and Cantley. You’ll be based at Wissington and work regularly from Cantley, partnering with site teams to ensure both laboratories deliver reliable results, robust sugar accounting, and responsive technical support aligned to each site’s strategic goals.
Your Core Accountabilities
Act as the subject matter expert for analytical routines and methods, providing laboratory analysis cover when required.
Provide line management for the team.
Produce accurate technical reports.
Coordinate sample administration and shipment to external laboratories, reviewing results and supporting responses against product specifications.
Lead on laboratory safety, completing audits and safety walks and driving a strong safety culture.
Ensure efficient laboratory operations by being accountable for equipment maintenance routines and reagent preparation processes.
Own delivery of daily and weekly laboratory schedules, ensuring work is prioritised and completed to plan.
Maintain and continuously improve laboratory methods.
Build and adapt laboratory schedules in response to requests from the wider operational team, working closely with local laboratory colleagues to deliver.
Provide calibration support and subject matter expertise for online factory instrumentation.
Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance.
Maintain and update the site’s COSHH system.
Manage laboratory chemical requirements, with the ability to prepare chemicals independently when required. Critical Skills, Knowledge & Competencies
Proven experience managing laboratory teams and processes to consistently deliver high-quality outputs.
Experience producing technical accounting for weekly reporting (desirable).
Strong IT skills, particularly in MS Excel.
Solid technical knowledge gained in an operational manufacturing environment.
Excellent organisation skills, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and meet deadlines.
Confident communicator, able to build effective relationships across all levels of the factory and operations teams.
Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
