With a commitment to operational excellence, compliance, and innovation, we are seeking an experienced and skilled Customs Freight & Export Specialist to join our team in Ayrshire. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to play a pivotal role in ensuring the business adheres to all customs regulations and standards worldwide. Salary for this position is circa £44k with excellent benefits and hybrid working. (2 days in the office)
About the Role - As the Customs Freight & Export Specialist, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with all customs laws, regulations, and best practices globally. You will play a critical role in managing and enhancing the company's customs compliance strategies, ensuring accurate documentation and efficient processes for cross-border trade.
Responsibilities
1. Design and implement consistent processes across all EMEA locations for Customs clearance instructions, tariff coding, and compliance with authorisations, including monitoring Bonded, End Use, and Inward Processing goods.
2. Maintain documentation to support Customs Duty audits across EMEA entities.
3. Monitor regulatory and legislative changes.
4. Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of customs compliance processes and policies across the company’s global supply chain operations.
5. Interpret changes in global customs laws, regulations, and trade agreements to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
6. Provide technical expertise and guidance to internal teams, including logistics, procurement, and legal departments, on customs-related matters.
7. Oversee the preparation and submission of all necessary customs documentation, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
8. Manage relationships with customs authorities, third-party providers, and external consultants to ensure smooth operations and timely resolution of issues or audits.
9. Conduct internal audits and compliance checks to ensure adherence to policies and laws.
10. Develop and deliver training programs on customs compliance procedures, regulations, and best practices.
11. Act as the primary contact for customs compliance inquiries, resolving issues and leading dispute resolutions.
12. Support supply chain management to optimize import/export processes and minimize duties and taxes.
13. Track and report on customs compliance performance to senior management.
Qualifications - Required Qualifications and Experience:
1. Extensive knowledge of international customs regulations, procedures, and trade compliance (EU and non-EU).
2. Proven experience in customs compliance within a global organization.
3. Understanding of customs declarations, tariff classifications, duty calculation, and trade agreements (e.g., Incoterms, WTO, Free Trade Agreements).
4. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate complex regulations.
5. Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
6. Proficient in customs compliance software (e.g., SAP).
7. Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to non-experts.
8. Strong interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
Pay range and compensation package - Salary circa £44k with benefits and hybrid working (2 days in the office).
