An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic dietitian to join our friendly and supportive team in a district general hospital within the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay. Barrow in Furness is on the South Cumbrian coast within easy reach of the Lake District National Park and offers a wide variety of leisure activities for a positive work life balance.
The post would ideally be suited to a newly or recently qualified dietitian wishing to expand their dietetic skills and knowledge. There will be opportunities for career progression and development.
Applicants should be HCPC registered dietitians. The post will be based at Furness General Hospital but may require travel to other sites within the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will work as part of a small team, with the support of experienced dietitians. The post covers a range of inpatient work including medical, surgical, orthopaedics, oncology, stroke management and paediatrics as well as outpatient clinics. As such you will gain experience in a wide range of clinical areas such as nutrition support, enteral feeding and gastroenterology. You will gain experience in paediatrics and have opportunity to gain experience in other dietetic specialist areas where appropriate.
The department is approved for training student dietitians. We have excellent IT facilities and are committed to personal development and training.
About us
We operate from three main hospitals – Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal – as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.
FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant‑led services.
WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non‑life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.
All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
Our Community Service for adults are provided in people's homes, community centres, clinics, GP Practices, community hospitals. Our aim is to work with people to help them remain independent, improve their health and manage their conditions through high‑quality care, advice and support.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Relevant dietetic courses (other than Dietetic course to attain HCPC)
Experience
* Comprehensive experience at under‑graduate level or at Band 5 of the core competencies within Dietetics
* Evidence of knowledge of current best practice in Dietetics
* Recent dietetic experience in an acute setting
Skills, ability and knowledge
* Assessment, observation, evaluation and reporting skills
* Can demonstrate ability to work as part of a team
* Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
* Experience of using electronic patient records
* Willingness to work flexibility to meet unexpected and unusual circumstances related to providing direct patient care
* Able to demonstrate a commitment to life‑long learning
