Overview
We are looking for a passionate music teacher to deliver engaging music lessons in primary schools across York. The role involves teaching singing-led curricular lessons, leading assemblies, and running choir and club activities.
Salary and Conditions
£22,379 – £29,288 per year (for 5 days/week), based on experience and a 5-point pay scale. Initial pay depends on classroom music experience and hours worked. Benefits include pension and paid training. Hours range from 7 to 35 per week, during term time, with no PGCE required.
About Sing Education
We source, train, and develop music teachers, providing resources and consultancy to schools in London, Yorkshire, Kent, and Slough. We aim to inspire children through music, fostering their joy of singing and making music collectively. Currently, we teach over 20,000 children weekly, with a team of over 90 dedicated teachers.
Typical Teaching Responsibilities
* Deliver weekly whole-class music lessons (Nursery to Year 6) using Sing Education resources
* Conduct singing assemblies
* Lead choirs, lunchtime, and after-school clubs
* Work across primary schools in the specified regions
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree in music or a related field from a recognized university
* QTS desirable but not essential
Knowledge and Skills
* Strong singing voice and confidence in leading lessons and assemblies
* Excellent communication skills in English
* Ability to lead whole-class music lessons effectively
* Basic keyboard skills
* Understanding of the National Curriculum for music
* Proficiency with ICT tools such as G Suite and communication platforms
Relevant Experience
* Classroom or one-to-one teaching experience
* Experience working with children or young people in a teaching or leadership role
