Competitive salary per annum plus excellent benefits
The University of Hull is on an ambitious journey to transform our campus, modernise our estate, and enhance the experience of every student, colleague, and visitor. As we continue to invest in our physical environment and infrastructure, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Project Manager to play a pivotal role in delivering high‑quality development, refurbishment, and improvement projects across our diverse estate.
As a Project Manager within the Estate Development team, you will lead and deliver a wide variety of building, refurbishment, maintenance, and improvement projects, typically ranging from £5k to £1m in value.
You will:
* Manage end‑to‑end project delivery across the full lifecycle, following RIBA work stages and established project governance processes.
* Undertake building surveying duties where required, including defect inspections, condition assessments, reports, and preparation of specifications and tender documentation.
* Oversee pre‑ and post‑contract activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with legal and statutory requirements—including CDM Regulations and the Building Safety Act.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues across faculties, schools, and professional services, as well as external contractors and consultants.
* Assemble, brief, and manage external design teams and specialist advisers.
* Prepare high‑quality written reports, business cases, gateway documentation, and project communications.
* Ensure effective monitoring of programme, cost, quality, risk, sustainability targets, and technical compliance.
What you’ll bring
We are seeking a proactive, organised, and solutions‑focused professional who can bring a blend of technical expertise and strong interpersonal skills.
You will ideally have:
* A relevant degree and/or equivalent experience in construction, building surveying, or project management.
* Professional membership (or working towards membership) with RICS, MCIOB, MAPM, or similar.
* Experience of delivering construction, refurbishment, or maintenance projects with an understanding of procurement strategies and contract administration (NEC4/JCT).
* Knowledge of BIM, Soft Landings, and modern project management methodologies.
* Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and negotiation skills.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward‑thinking Estates & Facilities Directorate that is evolving to meet the demands of a dynamic higher education sector. You will contribute directly to the University’s strategic vision by ensuring our facilities are sustainable, fit for purpose, and aligned to long‑term organisational priorities. This is an opportunity to shape a significant portfolio, drive meaningful change and make a lasting impact.
