Commercial Director
They are seeking a Commercial lead responsible for existing contracts and bids, working with multifunctional teams within a dynamic environment, focused on long-term service delivery programmes. The Commercial Director will oversee all commercial aspects throughout programme lifecycles, including proposal development, customer negotiations, internal governance, contract management, and successful closeout.
Key Responsibilities
1. Manage a small team of commercial specialists, providing oversight, direction, and development, either directly or through delegation.
2. Lead and/or direct commercial negotiations with new and existing customers, aiming to minimise liability and maximise profit.
3. Establish and nurture customer relationships from bid to contract completion.
4. Develop proposals as a key member of the bid team, supporting commercial staff, and establishing a balanced commercial position around contract terms that manage risk and reward while remaining competitive.
5. Conduct or oversee commercial review and contractual analysis of key terms, presenting recommendations to board-level management during tender processes.
6. Manage existing contracts and live programmes, actively managing commercial risks, ensuring obligations are met, resolving issues, and managing scope changes.
7. Develop strategic relationships and agreements with industry partners and intermediaries.
8. Collaborate with strategic suppliers to support prime contracts.
9. Advise the business on all commercial and contractual matters.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Degree qualification in a relevant subject.
* Extensive commercial experience, including working with the MoD or other UK government departments and export customers.
* Broad business awareness and experience managing the commercial aspects of complex, high-tech projects, preferably within the aerospace & defence sector.
* Experience in developing, reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contract terms within programme scope.
* Proven team management skills, strategic thinking, and relationship-building abilities at all organizational levels.
Position: Commercial Director
Salary: DOE, up to £98k
Location: Bournemouth
