Description The main responsibility for this role is to provide a laboratory based video recovery, image processing and enhancement service to officers of the West Midlands Police. To Communicate verbal and written summaries of findings for investigating officers to review and make informed decisions as to how to progress inquiries. Provide evidential reports for the purpose of presenting evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Court. Key responsibilities To provide an imagery recovery and processing service from various digital devices within a laboratory environment supporting operational Video Imaging Officers. To edit, including the production of edited sequences and still images, video enhancement and copy facilities of imagery based evidence. This will be working alone under your own initiative as well as other stakeholders in the laboratory. Communicate and advise investigating officers within the WMP and other specific external agencies including the CPS on differing technical methods to achieve and deliver best evidence to set timescales. Manage forensic exhibits to ensure continuity, confidentiality and security is maintained at all times; with the use of Police systems Understand and follow Digital Forensic good practice methodologies (ISO17025 standard and ACPO Principles of Digital Evidence) to acquire and process imagery based evidence Ensure compliance with Force and departmental policies and procedures Maintain accurate records for all cases worked on, ensuring that all relevant information is entered in a timely and accurate manner. Produce Witness Statements and attend court to give evidence as required To carry out any duties commensurate with the purpose of the post that may from time to time be determined. Knowledge and Skills Essential Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team Possess good communication skills (both verbal and written) Be enthusiastic, hardworking and flexible Experience in using software to process and edit footage; Understanding of CCTV/Network systems A passion for developing technologies used in imagery devices. Proven experience in the use of computer software and hardware Be conversant with the ISO 17025 standard and ACPO Principles of Digital Evidence Be able to work with material that may be of an obscene, offensive or distressing nature. Treat such material in the appropriate manner ensuring it is secured and handled according to defined policies. Desirable Experience in the recovery and handling of video evidence Understanding of programming and/or scripting languages Knowledge of the criminal justice system Investigative awareness Special Conditions Must be prepared to handle material that may be offensive or distressing. Appointments to this post are subject to specific vetting and medical clearance. Confidentiality and trust are very important in this post and must be maintained at all times. The post holder may be required, from time to time, to work outside of office hours at week-ends or bank holidays Hours: The post holder will be required to work a shift pattern that incorporates working weekends, bank holidays and from time to time outside of core shift hours. Location: Ridgepoint House, Birmingham. Vetting: Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role, this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
