Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 nurse to join our established and growing Inherited Cardiac Conditions (ICC) service at University Hospitals Birmingham. This is a specialist nursing role within a multidisciplinary team that provides care and support to patients and families affected by inherited cardiac conditions, including cardiomyopathies and inherited arrhythmias.
The role supports regional care across the West Midlands and is ideal for a motivated cardiac nurse who wants to develop specialist expertise in genomic healthcare, family screening, and ICC management. You will work closely with consultant cardiologists, genetic counsellors, ICC service coordinators and the wider MDT to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care.
Main duties of the job
Main Duties and Responsibilities
*Support patients and families through ICC pathways, including initial assessment, genetic testing coordination, and post-result counselling.
*Develop competence in ECG interpretation, risk stratification, and understanding of genetic conditions affecting the heart.
*Work within ICC clinics focused on cardiomyopathies, inherited arrhythmias, and family evaluation after sudden cardiac death.
*Participate in MDT discussions, liaise with coroner's offices for post-mortem referrals, and support cascade testing of at-risk relatives.
*Deliver patient and staff education, including teaching on genetic inheritance and ICC-related care.
*Contribute to audit, service development, and the implementation of ICC-related policy and guidance across the Trust.
*Receive structured supervision and development support from experienced CNS colleagues.

*An interest in inherited cardiac conditions, family screening, and genetic testing.
*Good communication skills and a compassionate approach to supporting patients, including bereaved families.
*A willingness to work towards competence in specialist areas through training and supervised practice.
