Job Description:
A leading FMCG Manufacturer is currently seeking a Technical Manager / Head of Technical to join their Senior Leadership Team. Reporting to the site director, this Technical Manager will implement the company’s technical and quality strategy to ensure audit readiness, managing product safety, authenticity, legality, and quality.
This role is site-based, requiring a home base that is commutable. Experience in Dairy, Soups, Sauces, or thermal processing & micro is essential, along with experience hosting BRC audits.
Technical Manager responsibilities include:
1. Lead technical team to deliver the site business plan
2. Work with HR on recruitment, retention, and development of technical staff
3. Develop and implement an annual training and succession plan
4. Ensure completion of all annual PDRs
5. Coach and develop team members daily
6. Manage performance of the technical team
7. Develop multi-skilled resources to support the business
8. Create and drive the site Food Safety & Quality Culture plan
9. Foster a continuous improvement culture within the technical team
10. Support the Process Technologist in developing site initiatives
11. Maximize efficiencies through quality improvement projects
12. Partner with SHE to maintain training and health & safety standards
13. Enforce food safety, quality, health & safety, and environmental policies
14. Manage financial budgets
15. Oversee activities ensuring product safety, authenticity, legality, and quality
16. Report technical governance to senior management
17. Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and practices
18. Collaborate cross-site to share best practices
19. Develop and implement the site food safety plan
20. Promote technical quality and best practices across the site
21. Support production with recipes, yield management, and testing
22. Assist with independent audits
Ideal candidates will be degree-qualified with Dairy Manufacturing experience, proficient in dairy/food microbiology, and experienced working with multiple retailers. Certifications such as Level 3 Food Hygiene and Level 4 HACCP are preferred, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 suite.
