Lead Practitioner Mathematics (LP 4 – LP 8) Main Purpose of the Role The Lead Practitioner Mathematics plays a crucial role in driving excellence in teaching and learning within the maths department at Moreton School, a large secondary school serving a disadvantaged part of Wolverhampton. As a highly skilled and experienced maths teacher, the Lead Practitioner will model outstanding practice, support colleagues in developing their teaching expertise and subject knowledge, and collaborate with the maths team to enhance the curriculum and ensure engaging, high-quality learning experiences for our diverse student population, which includes 56% Pupil Premium, 2.6% EHCP, and 18% SEND. Aligned with the school's vision and values, the Lead Practitioner Mathematics will be instrumental in fostering a culture of continuous improvement, where staff are empowered to grow and develop their skills, and students are inspired to reach their full potential. Key Responsibilities and Duties Teaching and Learning • Deliver outstanding Mathematics lessons that challenge, engage, and support the learning of all students, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds and with additional needs. • Model excellent teaching practice and subject expertise to support the professional development of colleagues within the Mathematics department. • Work collaboratively with the Mathematics team to review, develop, and implement the Mathematics curriculum, ensuring it is engaging, challenging, and responsive to the needs of our students. • Participate actively in the school's teacher development team, sharing best practices and driving continuous improvement in teaching and learning. • Support colleagues in developing their teaching practice and subject knowledge through coaching, mentoring, and the provision of high-quality resources and training. • Contribute to the planning and delivery of effective intervention strategies to support students who are underperforming or at risk of falling behind. • Participate in arrangements for preparing students for external Mathematics examinations and assessments. Whole-School Contribution • Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school's policies, practices, and procedures to support the school's vision and values. • Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school, promoting the school's commitment to inclusion, diversity, and community engagement. • Collaborate with colleagues and other relevant professionals, both within and beyond the school, to secure coordinated outcomes for students. • Provide cover in the unforeseen circumstance that another teacher is unable to teach. Professional Development • Participate in the school's appraisal procedures and take an active role in your own professional development, seeking out opportunities to improve your teaching practice and subject knowledge. • Support the professional development of other teachers and support staff, where appropriate, by sharing expertise and best practices. Safeguarding • Work in line with statutory safeguarding guidance (e.g., Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent) and the school's safeguarding and child protection policies. • Collaborate with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to promote the best interests of students, including sharing concerns where necessary. • Maintain a strong commitment to safeguarding and the promotion of student welfare, ensuring that all students feel safe, supported, and able to thrive. Skills and Competencies • Excellent subject knowledge and understanding of the Mathematics curriculum, with the ability to translate this into engaging and effective lessons. • Outstanding teaching skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and challenge students of all abilities. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. • Proven track record of supporting colleagues in developing their teaching practice and subject knowledge. • Effective leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to model best practice and drive continuous improvement. • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple responsibilities effectively. • Strong commitment to inclusion, diversity, and meeting the needs of all students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds and with additional needs. • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, contributing to the development and implementation of school policies and initiatives. Professional Development As a Lead Practitioner Mathematics, you will have access to a range of professional development opportunities to support your growth and development within the role. As the Lead Practitioner Mathematics, you will be expected to work in line with all relevant statutory safeguarding guidance, such as Keeping Children Safe in Education and the Prevent duty, as well as the school's own safeguarding and child protection policies. Your key safeguarding responsibilities will include: • Maintaining a strong and proactive commitment to safeguarding and the promotion of student welfare. • Collaborating closely with the designated safeguarding lead (DSL) to ensure the best interests of students are protected, including sharing any concerns that may arise. • Participating in safeguarding training and updates to ensure your knowledge and understanding of safeguarding practices are current and comprehensive. • Fostering a culture of vigilance and a safe environment where students feel supported, empowered, and able to thrive. • Promoting the importance of safeguarding and child protection throughout your work with colleagues, students, and the wider school community. By upholding the highest standards of safeguarding practice, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all students at Moreton School.
