Join the Powertrain Team based in Bristol as an EWIS IPT (Integrated Product Team) Lead and help us to achieve our mission of pioneering electric aviation.
The Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) team is part of Vertical's Powertrain organisation and is responsible for designing and integrating the aircraft wiring systems across the aircraft. This includes conventional low-voltage systems as well as novel high-voltage systems to enable our all-electric powertrain. The team works closely with our Motor, Battery, and Power Distribution teams to deliver an integrated Powertrain system for our VX4 aircraft.
The team consists of highly experienced EWIS engineers from various aerospace backgrounds, bringing their knowledge and expertise together to define the best solutions for the aircraft as a whole. We work in conjunction with all aircraft systems and structural teams from initial concepts through to interface management, detailed design, harness manufacture, and installation; through to aircraft commissioning and flight testing.
What success will look like for the EWIS IPT Lead
As our EWIS IPT Lead, you'll lead and develop a world-class EWIS team as we design and certify our VX4 aircraft and beyond. This role will be a combination of hands-on technical delivery and traditional team leadership responsibilities as you enable the design and delivery of all aircraft wiring harnesses and low voltage distribution/protection systems and work with the wider Powertrain and Aircraft engineering teams as the primary representative of the EWIS team, ensuring that integration of EWIS is properly accounted for at all stages of design and build.
The technical delivery will be focused on working with the Principal Engineer to steer and verify the team's technical deliverables. This will include enabling delivery across LV distribution and electrical wiring architectures, component and technology trade studies, aircraft wiring integration, design data release for manufacturing, and component/system testing and verification.
As a leader, you'll own the s hort- and long-term planning to meet business needs and the team's capability, as well as manage the r esource and budget management, l iaise with our design and manufacturing partners, and r epresent the EWIS function, both inside and outside the company ad the main point of contact.
What would we like you to bring?
We want you to be successful in your role, to achieve this, you will need p revious technical delivery experience with EWIS/Electrical Installation Design and Low Voltage Distribution Systems before moving into a leadership position leading small/medium size teams. You'll have extensive experience managing suppliers and other company stakeholders, and i deally have e xperience working in a Part 21J Design Organisation, although this is desirable. Ideally, you will have gained this experience from either the Aerospace or Automotive sectors.
