About The Business Unit

We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

Overview Of The Role

We are seeking an experienced Chartered Highways Engineer to be part of our Transport and Mobility Solutions Division in the UK. You will be required to combine managerial and technical responsibilities, promote a good team culture and inspire teams to deliver projects to quality, budget and timescales.

You will be offered, and be expected to take on, a high degree of accountability and able to energetically contribute to growing the highways teams profile and work portfolio through successful project delivery and engaged participation in business development.

As an experienced Chartered Highways Engineer, you will be expected to work in coordination with our sister offices across the UK and overseas.

The role will be varied as well as demanding, but provides an opportunity to develop your own career within Mott MacDonald.

Key Elements Of The Role Are


* Technical Excellence
o Managing the planning, design and implementation of major highway projects for National Highways and other Government Agencies, Local Authorities or Contractors to comprehend and interpret data, develop innovative solutions, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards
o You will be required to work self-sufficiently in undertaking your projects at feasibility, concept and detailed design stages, based on project requirements
o Demonstrating guidance and ensuring adherence to Health and Safety policy and procedures
o You will promote the use of Mott MacDonald’s internal CAD Standard and ensure that it is used in accordance with our internal management system
o Undertake and review 3D models using Civil3D or OpenRoads and delivery of models in Navisworks or similar
o Be experienced with working in Common Data Environments, developing BIM Execution Plans and ensuring compliance of models
o You will be required to successfully manage projects or project elements in accordance with our quality procedures, and within financial and programme targets
* Client satisfaction
o Working with a variety of Public and Private clients ranging from Local Authorities to multinational companies
o Working for a range of internal Clients across the different business units within Mott MacDonald
o Working on projects of both local and national significance and importance
* Team working and collaboration
o You will be expected to manage project teams or project elements through all phases of a project, from bidding to completion
o Leading a portfolio of projects, ensuring delivery to client requirements, programme and budget
o Providing technical management skills
o Controlling project resources and monitoring against budget
o Preparing and managing work programmes to deliver to deadlines
o Developing and maintaining excellent client relationships
o Work on bid proposals and submissions at various levels
o Involved in business development
o Mentoring and developing junior staff
Candidate specification

The Successful Candidate Will Meet The Following Criteria

* Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or related discipline, or extensive equivalent experience Chartered (or Incorporated) Engineer
* Demonstrable record in providing technical leadership on highway and infrastructure projects as well as demonstrable record of team leadership and development
* Demonstrable record of successfully managing project teams and of planning and controlling project programmes, budgets and resources. This includes the proven ability of project commercial and financial competency
* Have sound experience of working across multi-discipline design projects and clients (local authorities and government), with a strong understanding of highway design standards (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges / Standards for Highways / Manual for Streets) and sound engineering principles
* Knowledge and experience of using design tools, for example AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads and InfoDrainage
* Able to communicate confidently and professionally with colleagues, fellow professionals and clients at all levels (written and verbal)
* Able to contribute to business development & development of client relationship, including experience in the preparation of fee proposals

We require a combination of the following competencies / skills:

* Knowledge of highway design principals
* Experience of engineering design calculations
* Experience in the use of BIM to coordinate design inputs
* Have the capability and strong experience to work to deadlines and work autonomously when required
* Possess experience of preparing detailed construction drawings and standard details and technical specifications
* Have an understanding and experience of personal Health and Safety responsibilities
* Be prepared to work away from home when required
