We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues to join our existing team of Acute Medicine Consultants at Good Hope Hospital. We currently have 18 consultants with special interests in Respiratory, Diabetes, Renal and Intensive Care.
The department includes a Medical Assessment Unit (MAU), inpatient beds on our Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Short Stay wards, and a Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit.
Opportunities for teaching are available in our simulation suite and clinical skills area. Other special interests are encouraged.
Standard job plan of 10PA; exact plans will be agreed with successful candidates.
The appointee must have necessary qualifications and should either be on the Specialist Register of the GMC or be within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview.
Main duties of the job
* Ward rounds covering the 90‑bed footprint, assessment of new and follow‑up patients presenting to SDEC, and full participation in the Acute Medical on‑call rota covering 0800‑1600, 1400‑2200 shifts.
* Weekend ward rounds on a 1‑in‑6 basis.

Job responsibilities
* Have oversight of all team activity during clinical sessions and provide support to other registered and non‑registered clinical practitioners when needed.
* Provide appropriate supervision to resident doctors, ACPs and clinical practitioners.
* Perform administrative duties related to patient care.
* Contribute to undergraduate, post‑graduate and continuing medical education activities, including support for AHPs within the multidisciplinary team.
* Regularly participate in departmental and directorate meetings.
* Be encouraged and supported with research projects.
* Provide cover for consultant colleagues during leave periods in accordance with Trust policy.
* Help the department and Trust in emergencies.
* Commit to appropriate evening and weekend on‑call duties.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent.
* MRCP or equivalent.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for General Internal Medicine.
* Specialty interest via (a) CCT – proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview; (b) CESR; or (c) European Community rights.
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development, including CME.
