Training Programme Director Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
The post holder will oversee the delivery of the Child and Adolescent ST training Programme in NHSE England North West, covering both the East (formerly North West) and West (formerly Mersey) parts of the Scheme. The post holder will support the Head of School in the strategic development of the North West School of Psychiatry, contribute to the School Operational Programme, and serve as a member of the School Board and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Speciality Training committee.
The Training Programme Director will focus on improving learner supervision, assessment, and experience, engaging faculty, ensuring effective educational outcomes, and driving whole workforce transformation and multi‑professional link development.
Main duties of the job
* Oversee the Specialtys Regional Training Programme.
* Handle specialty‑specific matters and trainee/trainer concerns.
* Recruit for training posts and programmes.
* Manage postgraduate programme activities – assessments, progression, rotations, support, remediation, out‑of‑programme (OOP) management, trainee management, career support, less‑than‑full‑time training, inter‑deanery transfer, academic training, and related work‑streams.
* Ensure compliance with national standards set by the Royal College and guidelines specific to Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
Qualifications
* Consultant or Specialty Doctor in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, currently employed in an NHS Trust in NW England.
* Member or Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Relevant education in medical education – e.g., Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma, or Masters.
Experience
* Experience working with doctors in an educational context.
* Experience as an educational supervisor, particularly for psychiatric trainees.
* Clinical manager experience.
* Previous or current appointment as a leader in healthcare education (desirable).
* Recruitment experience.
* Awareness of funding streams for healthcare education.
* Understanding of the workforce transformation agenda.

Contract Terms
All educator recruitment activity – extensions to existing contracts or new appointments – will be fixed‑term contracts ending 31 March 2027.
