You will be based at our modern purpose-built Head Office in the vibrant city centre of Cardiff. Cardiff is an accessible city with strong transport links, and London is only 2 hours away by train.
The role
As a Buyer, you will assist in developing, sourcing and delivering an on-trend and commercially focused range, whilst driving profit and enhancing the Peacocks brand position. You'll be part of our close-knit Head Office team, making sure our ranges are commercially developed and delivered in line with our brand vision and strategy.
Responsibilities/ Objectives:
* Plans and builds a commercially balanced range, whilst achieving margin targets as set by the company;
* Drives regular departmental product reviews, ensuring coordination across departments in terms of trends, looks and colour palettes;
* Operates an effective and timely product sign-off process, in line with the critical path and planning cycle;
* Takes ownership of the critical path and ensures deadlines are met with any issues being raised and action plans communicated and implemented;
* Reviews and analyses sales data, identifying top performing products/lines, ensuring data-driven decisions are made for future lines/intakes and recommendations for improvement are made and presented;
* Sources, selects and negotiates with suppliers to obtain optimum product, prices and terms of contract, utilizing suppliers’ expertise to improve range and knowledge;
* Leads meetings at Director/Head of level ensuring effective key information is communicated and any actions are completed within the set timescales;
* Collaborates with other departments within the company to ensure the successful launch of new product lines/seasonal collections and other company initiatives;
* Works collaboratively with the merchandising team to monitor and control trade, in order to ensure stock turn, margin targets and profit levels are achieved.
Skills and Experience:
* Experience within a Fashion Retail Buying role with a commercial mindset;
* Deep understanding of fabrics, garment construction and the whole buying process with a strong eye for print/pattern;
* A passion for trends who excels in driving newness in a fast-paced environment;
* Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to build strong relationships with suppliers;
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, building and maintaining effective relationships with both internal and external teams;
* Proven track record of developing and trading highly commercial fashion ranges that exceed sales/profit targets.
