Housing Lawyer needed in South East London Paying £38.43 per hr ref OR26916 Full time hours on a temporary basis Key Responsibilities The main duties of the role include: Undertaking general litigation conduct, including issuing claims, reviewing applications, and preparing and scrutinising documentation submitted to courts and tribunals. Providing legal advice, support and case management, including responsibility for your own caseload, on all legal matters affecting income streams such as housing rent, variable service charges and Housing Benefit appeals. Reviewing and authorising documentation prepared by officers for presentation before courts and tribunals, where the postholder holds a right of audience in matters relating to the housing functions. Being fully responsible for cases authorised, advice given, legal support provided, case management decisions and legal representation in relation to housing rent recovery, benefits, and leasehold and freehold litigation. Making key legal decisions that impact the wider organisation, including identifying, escalating and managing financial and reputational risks. Working directly with officers and managers involved in litigation, providing clear, timely and practical legal advice. Maintaining high standards of governance and compliance while managing a demanding and complex caseload, ensuring statutory, court and organisational deadlines are consistently met with minimal supervision. Representing the organisation at courts and tribunals, including advocacy where appropriate. Supporting the Litigation Team and Business Unit Managers to ensure legislation, guidance and legal information are accurately monitored, updated and communicated in line with organisational policies, procedures and strategic plans.
