Job Description:
NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.
NHS Highland covers the largest geographical area of all the Health Boards in Scotland (41% of the mainland), serving over 310,000 people across urban, rural, and island communities. The area offers a unique career experience and excellent work-life balance, with proximity to Glasgow City for day trips.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Adult Mental Health Psychological Therapies Service in Argyll and Bute as an 8B Principal Clinical/Counselling Psychologist. The post is based in Dunoon and aligned with the Cowal and Bute Community Mental Health Teams.
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about multidisciplinary working, experienced in assessing and treating complex cases, managing caseloads and waiting lists, and supervising trainees and staff. Clinical expertise in mental health, relevant experience, and knowledge of current policies are essential.
Responsibilities include working directly with service users, providing training, consultation, and supervision to colleagues, providing senior clinical leadership, supporting clinical governance, contributing to service development, and deputising for the Lead Psychologist as required.
The service covers a large rural area, and the successful candidate should be comfortable with blended interventions using virtual and face-to-face clinics. Travel within Argyll and Bute may be required, but new working methods aim to prevent rural disadvantages.
We offer a friendly and supportive environment with opportunities for CPD and developing areas of specialism. Applicants must hold a doctorate-level Clinical/Counselling Psychologist qualification, be registered with the HCPC, and possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills. Flexible working and a hybrid model of remote and on-site work are supported, and a relocation package may be available.
