Waking Night Support Worker Childrens Residential Home Shift Hours: 21:30 07.30 Shift Pattern: Saturday to Tuesday. 4 Set nights each week Contract: Full-time permanent Full training provided As a Waking Night Support Worker, you will play a vital role in the overnight care and supervision of looked after children. You will ensure a calm, safe, and secure environment throughout the night, responding to any needs that arise and maintaining consistent safeguarding standards. During night shifts, you will remain awake and alert, carrying out regular checks, providing reassurance where needed, and responding appropriately to any incidents or distress. Key Responsibilities: Provide overnight care, supervision, and safeguarding for up to 7 young people. Carry out regular checks throughout the night in line with care plans and risk assessments. Respond calmly and effectively to incidents, distress, or waking children who require support or reassurance. Maintain a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment during waking night shifts. Accurately record all observations, incidents, and relevant information in line with organisational and regulatory requirements. Support the continuity of care by communicating effectively with day staff during handovers. Follow individualised care plans and behaviour support strategies. Maintain professionalism, vigilance, and awareness throughout the shift. Participate in training and development to support best practice in residential childcare. Requirements Previous experience working with children, particularly those with challenging behaviour and complex needs, is desirable. Understanding of child development and trauma-informed care is an advantage. Relevant qualifications in Residential Childcare, Social Care, Psychology, or related fields are desirable but not essential. Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Ability to stay alert and attentive throughout waking night shifts. Strong observational and recording skills.
