Responsibilities
The key responsibilities of the Senior Cost Engineer are:
* Lead the development of cost models relevant to the assigned product areas. Work closely with the respective technical teams to assure consistency with the product design and to create awareness of the cost models relevant to their product area.
* Influence the design of the individual product areas to lead to an integrated cost‑optimised plant design and instill a cost conscience in the wider programme.
* Form an integrated understanding of how the cost of an individual system affects the overarching cost of the prototype and potential commercial successors.
* Launch and manage external procurement for cost estimation activities.
* Assure the timeliness of the creation of the model in relation to the required decision timescales.
* Act as the main point of contact for cost assessment in the relevant product area and participate in relevant design review meetings.
* Quickly gain a top‑level understanding of the relevant subject matter of the partnered product areas.
* Identify and protect intellectual property across all costing activities.
* Ensure robust and rigorous documentation of cost modelling and optimisation efforts using succinct, programme‑relevant and highly credible costing reports, ensuring all cost reports are passed through the costing due diligence process and approved by subject‑matter experts.
* Coach graduate cost engineers in cost engineering and fusion power‑plant integration. Provide professional development, engage with APM and other external bodies, and support the wider STEP PPM community via contributions at meetings, conferences, and community of practice events.
