Are you passionate about supporting patients in their own homes, and committed to improving their quality of life, utilising your rehabilitation skills?

We are seeking a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to join The York Community Therapy Team to deliver high standards of Holistic and Occupational Therapy interventions to patients within their own place of residence to facilitate the individual reaching their full functional potential.


Our team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Generic Therapy Assistants. We are a well-established team and would look forward to you joining us.

This role will involve using health coaching skills to effectively engage with the patient and their family to ensure expectations are appropriately managed.

Please note this post is available for secondment as fixed-term 1 year contract. If applying as part of a secondment opportunity, please ensure you have sought line managers approval.

Main duties of the job

1. To undertake specialist occupational therapist assessment and management of patients referred to the York Community Therapy team.
2. To determine clinical diagnosis/need and deliver Occupational Therapy interventions as indicated.
3. To provide support, specialist advice and training to more junior members of staff and students.
4. To act as a resource within the department and Trust, providing specialist information and advice regarding patients.
5. To maintain records as an autonomous practitioner in accordance with legislation, professional and service policy.
6. Provide support to other colleagues when dealing with this group of patients.
7. To be responsible for a defined area of service working without direct supervision. Clinical work is not routinely evaluated, however clinical work will be evaluated in line with Trust and service objectives. Access and advice is available from senior professional colleagues if required.
8. Initiate evidence-based audit and projects to evaluate and improve clinical practice. Initiate and evaluate user involvement and where appropriate make local service changes

The ability to transport yourself and equipment across the locality during the course of a normal working day is required for this vacancy. Access to a vehicle that can be used for business purposes and hold a full and valid driving license is required.

9. Degree in Occupational Therapy
10. HCPC Registered Occupational therapist

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria

11. Experience in a relevant junior role, including the management of a range of conditions, with evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision
12. Developed / Specialist clinical skills within relevant area
13. Delivery of relevant audit and service improvement.
