About You

The Horticulture Tutor role would perfectly suit someone who has experience of working with young people or who is looking to share their knowledge and experiences with the next generation in order to support them to achieve their life goals.

Possessing teaching and assessing qualifications, you must be able to work both independently and as part of a wider team. A strong sense of purpose and a passion for teaching and training is a must, along with the ability to use your initiative and work to set deadlines.

You must possess a keen interest in horticulture.

You Will Also Be Able To

* Plan and deliver diverse and innovative teaching, learning and assessment opportunities to achieve the highest academic standards and learning opportunities for learners (including functional skills maths and English).
* Ensure learning, teaching and assessment programmes take account of the latest developments in subjects taught and evaluate their impact on learner progress and success, ensuring that appropriate use is made of ICT.
* Provide pastoral and tutorial support within the framework of support designed by the organisation to support individual learner support, progress and achievement.

You Will Also Have

* PGCE/Certificate in Education or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training
* Qualified to a minimum level 3 in Horticulture.

About The Role

We are delighted to offer a full-time opportunity for a Study Programme Tutor in Horticulture, working across our partnership sites in Stockport and Oldham, as we expand our horticulture provision.

This is a rewarding and dynamic role for an individual who is passionate about engaging and inspiring young people. As a Horticulture Tutor, you will be part of a committed and professional team delivering high-quality programmes that motivate learners to develop their skills, gain recognised qualifications, and progress into meaningful careers.

You will be responsible for managing the learning journey of your students from initial interview and assessment through to successful achievement of a Level 1 or Level 2 qualification in Practical Horticulture Skills, with a focus on sports ground maintenance. Your teaching will be practical, hands-on, and tailored to meet the needs of a diverse cohort of learners, supporting them to gain confidence, competence, and a sense of direction.

Alongside subject-specific learning, you will contribute to the development of learners employability and social skills, and support those who require it to achieve qualifications in English and maths up to GCSE level, with delivery supported by our in-house specialist team.

This role also involves working in close partnership with our host clubs on a day-to-day basis, maintaining strong lines of communication and ensuring collaborative working throughout the academic year.

Safeguarding responsibilities: This role will involve daily contact with learners, and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. All staff have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people, and/or vulnerable adults for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact. The Charitys Safeguarding Policy is available from Central YMCA website.

Any offer of employment will be subject to successfully completing pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS disclosure, teacher prohibition check, the receipt of satisfactory references, overseas check (if applicable), relevant original ID documentation and examination certificates.

Regulated activity: This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the Charity is therefore permitted to ask shortlisted applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) to assess their suitability to work with children. Should you be shortlisted, you will be required to complete a disclosure form prior to interview.

Please note: Candidates with overseas experience exceeding three months within the past ten years will be required to provide criminal background checks or certificates of good conduct from the relevant jurisdictions, in English or with certified translations .
