As the demand for energy sector infrastructure is rapidly increasing, we are looking for a Graduate Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This role is within our financial and commercial team comprising of Quantity Surveyors (Commercial Contract Managers) working closely with our project financial controllers (Commercial Project Managers) and project accountants who together are responsible for the cost and commercial management of our extensive portfolio of complex high voltage substation projects across the united kingdom.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Working under the guidance of our experienced team of Quantity Surveyors the role comprises of the following duties which may be adapted from time to time within the wider scope of the quantity surveying discipline to suit the needs of the business and your individual growth and development needs.
1. Administering construction contracts / subcontracts on a day-to-day basis ensuring timely submission of contractual notifications.
2. Providing timely updates to our Project Managers & Commercial Project managers on financial status of key elements of our projects, including forecast out-turn positions of subcontractor / key supplier accounts.
3. Attending project meetings with site, customer and joint venture partner stakeholders at their office premises or construction sites.
4. Preparation and submission of applications for payment in accordance with the conditions of contract and monitoring progress from certification to final date for payment.
5. Managing project change and claims, relating to both the main contract with our customers and our subcontractors / key suppliers.
6. Collaborating and effectively communicating with the wider project team.
7. Performing quantum and/or delay analyses to establish causation for relevant events impacting the scope of works and or project schedule.
8. Performing measurement / take off analysis of construction drawings to identify and quantify change.
9. Pursuing and / or defending incoming and outgoing claims; including the collation of relevant project records, documentation, and appropriate evidence / facts, through to satisfactory conclusion.
10. Establishing and substantiating cause and effect necessary to demonstrate entitlement to quantum and / or additional time in accordance with the salient conditions of contract.
11. Actively building positive relationships with our Customers, Joint Venture Partners, and Subcontract / Key Supplier teams.
12. Supporting our Project Manager & Commercial Project managers in identifying, evaluating, and assessing risks & opportunities.
What You Bring
13. A degree in in quantity surveying / contract management and/or commercial project management combined with knowledge and familiarity in the following areas gained by through work experience or formal education. Standard Forms of Contract. Measurement Budgeting and financial reporting Contractual and financial management Construction technologies Principles of contract law.
14. Desire to attain chartered status (RICS / CICES)
15. A collaborative and team-oriented approach.
16. Good negotiation and problem-solving skills.
17. A willingness to share knowledge to further develop team strength and capability.
