Job DescriptionProcess Chemist - Full Time / Hybrid - Derby, Raynesway
We are seeking capable, experienced, and proactive Process Chemists to join our growing team, responsible for leading engineering packages. These are high-impact roles, ideal for experienced chemists who thrive on technical complexity, process rigor, and innovation with purpose. This is an opportunity to leverage your deep experience in Process Chemistry to contribute to the regeneration of the Raynesway Nuclear Licensed Site.
This major infrastructure program involves replacing current facilities with modern, state-of-the-art manufacturing capabilities.
What you will be doing
* Develop solutions for chemistry problems and underpin the science for designing a Nuclear Fuel Processing Plant.
* Provide technical advice to Nuclear and Chemical Process engineering teams for plant design and substantiation.
* Support defining operational limits, equipment specifications, analysis techniques, and product quality requirements.
* Identify and evaluate new technologies, focusing on developing safe and effective chemical processes to meet product specifications and plant throughput.
* Define the safe operating envelope and normal operating range, eliminating hazards and ensuring inherent safety through process chemistry design.
* Design and specify chemical processes for nuclear fuel reprocessing systems, including liquid-liquid separation, material transformation, dissolution, and waste treatment.
* Analyze and evaluate alternative nuclear chemical processing technologies.
* Facilitate laboratory trials to gather quantitative data supporting safety case, hazard analysis, and fault analysis.
* Define analysis requirements, sampling plans, and control strategies for plant production and quality.
* Participate in all design stages from stakeholder requirements to installation, commissioning, and operational documentation.
* Contribute chemical expertise to reviews related to design, quality, safety, and environmental assessments.
Who we're looking for
* Degree in Chemistry or a related discipline; post-graduate qualifications (Ph.D.) are preferable.
* Experience in separation, waste treatment, and nuclear fuel processing is desirable but not essential.
* Membership of a professional engineering institution is preferable.
