Overview
About IT Services at the University of Manchester is a vibrant and fast-moving department. We focus on delivering excellent customer service and quality services for our staff, students and researchers.
The Team
Based within the Information Security division, our team is the driving force behind cyber improvement across the University. We work in multi-disciplinary environments to deliver initiatives that protect our digital landscape. Our primary mission is to build a robust cyber security community, ensuring that every colleague has the information, tools, and support they need to work securely. We act as a collaborative partner, fostering confidence through transparency, engagement, and shared digital skills.
The Role
As the Cyber Security Change Lead, you will bridge the gap between high-level strategy and the everyday operational reality of our staff and students. You will be a key advisor to our leadership team, helping to anticipate challenges and optimize how we deliver security services. A central part of your work involves leading the Cyber Associates Network, bringing together voices from across the University to strengthen our collective resilience. You won’t be working in a silo; you will partner closely with the Identity Change Lead to coordinate shifts in how we handle security and identity processes. Whether you are developing tailored awareness programs for researchers or creating business cases for future security investments, your goal is to make security accessible and engaging. You will be the face of our division, building strong relationships with stakeholders in every Faculty to ensure security supports, rather than hinders, research and service excellence.
The Person
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:
* Change Management Expertise: You are an expert in developing and applying techniques to lead, manage, and successfully embed change initiatives within an organisation.
* Operational Leadership: You have a proven track record in planning, resourcing, and monitoring ongoing activities to ensure goals are met.
* Stakeholder Engagement: You excel at establishing relationships with people from various backgrounds, adapting your style to influence and manage perspectives effectively.
* Strategic Planning: Experience creating clear, pragmatic, and manageable plans for cultural change and engagement.
* Financial & Business Acumen: Proficiency in preparing business cases, monitoring budgets, and ensuring value for money.
* Qualifications: You hold an APMG Change Management Practitioner (or equivalent) qualification.
* Desirable Skills: Knowledge of Information Security (such as CISSP or CISM) or Project Management (such as ITIL or Prince2) would be a significant advantage.
