Overview
Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) was formed in 2017 following the merger of Central Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust. With the inclusion of North Manchester General Hospital from 1 April 2021, our organisation provides a single hospital service across the City of Manchester. It is an exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Manchester with a wealth of opportunity.
THE POST
We are seeking to appoint 2 Consultant Histopathologists to join our experienced and highly motivated team at MFT Histopathology with roles based at Oxford Road Campus (ORC) and Wythenshawe Hospital. The 10 PA posts will join the histopathology reporting team with a predominant contribution to Gastrointestinal, non-transplant medical liver and hepatopancreatobillary sub-specialist services. The post holder will also be required to report non-gynaecological cytology matching the histology specialities covered. Contribution to each sub-speciality will be discussed with the successful appointee based on expertise and service requirements.
Main responsibilities
You will join a team of 46 other full and part time Consultants in the MFT Histopathology service. In particular we are looking for candidates who can provide a reporting service for Gastrointestinal, non-transplant medical liver and Hepatopancreatobillary sub-specialities.
The main responsibilities of this post would be:
* Together with other Consultant colleagues, be responsible for providing sub specialised histopathology for its clinical users. This may include review of slides of patients who are referred in to MFT for further investigation or treatment from other hospitals. The appointee will have the opportunity to participate in cancer multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs) in line with their areas of subspecialisation which may involve travel to other sites.
* Participate in Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching and training. The Trust is committed to teaching Specialty Trainees in Histopathology under the aegis of Health Education North West (HENW). The appointee will also be expected to teach histopathology to other allied health professionals. There will be provision to review the SPA allocation in the job plan if an appointee takes up such extra responsibilities leading to increased teaching duties.
