We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Safety Engineer to support a large-scale civil nuclear decommissioning project based in Warrington. This is a long-term contract opportunity with strong potential to extend for several years, offering the chance to work on complex, high-profile nuclear safety challenges.
The Role You will provide specialist nuclear safety input across design and delivery phases, contributing to the development of high-quality safety case documentation and supporting hazard identification and risk reduction activities. The role will involve close collaboration with engineering teams and stakeholders to ensure nuclear safety requirements are embedded throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Producing and contributing to nuclear safety case documentation, including HAZANs, safety reports, and supporting analyses
Participating in hazard identification studies such as HAZOPs
Supporting the preparation of safety submissions and design basis documentation
Managing delivery of allocated safety work packages
Identifying and escalating safety-related risks to technical leads
Verifying peer work and supporting junior team members
Engaging with engineers and project stakeholders to ensure ALARP principles are met
Contributing to bids and future project planning where requiredEssential Requirements
Degree-qualified (or higher) in a relevant science or engineering discipline
Proven experience within the nuclear industry is essential
Demonstrable experience writing nuclear HAZANs
Strong background in nuclear safety case production (e.g. PSRs, PCSRs, hazard management strategies)
Good understanding of ALARP and ONR Safety Assessment Principles
Eligibility for SC clearance (candidates may start on BPSS and upgrade)
British passport holder only – dual nationality cannot be considered due to project security and nature of work Working Arrangements
Hybrid working model with approximately 3 days per week onsite in Warrington
