About the Role
Our client, a leading organisation working within the
UK Defence and National Security sector, is seeking an experienced
Infrastructure Engineer
to join their on-site technical team based in
Gloucester .
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a highly skilled environment, supporting
mission-critical IT infrastructure
and playing a key role in maintaining secure and stable platforms. You'll be involved in everything from incident response to system optimisation, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners.

Key Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day operational support for secure environments, including
incident management, change implementation, and routine maintenance
Deliver approved technical changes in line with customer and project requirements
Proactively monitor infrastructure to identify and resolve potential issues
Automate processes to improve efficiency and reduce the risk of human error
Support the technical lead in managing platform risk and performance
Apply
ITIL v4 principles
to support agile and responsive operations
Support platform upgrades, configuration changes, and service improvements
Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
Demonstrable experience in IT infrastructure support within a
secure, regulated environment, ideally in Defence, National Security, or Government sectors
Strong hands-on knowledge in several of the following:
VMware technologies
(ESXi, vCenter, NSX, VCF)
Windows Server administration
(AD, DNS, DHCP, PKI)
Linux system administration
Backup solutions
(e.g. Veeam)
Containerisation tools
(e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
Monitoring tools
such as Nagios
Solid awareness of
networking fundamentals
and
cyber security principles
Strong documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
Familiarity with the
ITIL framework
and experience working alongside DevOps or agile delivery teams
Desirable:
Experience supporting developers working with microservices, container platforms, and service-oriented architectures
Exposure to public sector delivery or working with UK Government clients
