Job overview

An opportunity has arisen to work within the Critical Care Therapy Team at PRH to cover maternity leave. We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person to join the team as a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner. The Critical care Therapy Team at PRH comprises of a Band 6 and band 5 Physiotherapist, a band 6 Occupational Therapist and 2 Band 4 Assistant Practitioners. We have close working links with the Therapy Team at RSH with a cross site B7 Clinical Lead.

This post is 18.75 hours per week to be worked over a 7 day working pattern. This includes weekends and bank holiday working on a rota basis.


Main duties of the job

This role forms part of the Critical Care Therapy Team and will play a pivotal role in the rehabilitation and recovery of complex critically ill patients.

These patients will be treated whilst on ITU and HDU and the complex patients will also be followed up following discharge to the wards.

The role will assist physical, functional and Psychological recovery and involve working closely with the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist.

This role will contribute to the rehabilitation of complex, critically ill patients, whilst in Critical Care and following discharge to the wards.

The post holder will work within the MDT to ensure Physical, functional and psychological recovery from critical illness.

The inpatient Therapy Team at PRH includes Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Assistant Practitioners and Support Workers. Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy work collaboratively and the majority of our support staff are generic. We have teams that cover all specialities within the Trust: Frailty, Medicine, Respiratory, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Surgery, Oncology and Critical Care.

Person specification


Qualifications

* GCSEs in Maths and English (Grades 9-4/A-C)
* Evidence of knowledge and skills sufficient to demonstrate the ability and willingness to study and work at the level equivalent to a foundation degree.
* Previous Therapy Assistant experience within the NHS at band 3 or above
* Experience within critical care setting


Knowledge

* Knowledge of therapy interventions acquired through training or experience within a healthcare setting
* Knowledge of the role of the assistant Practitioner and the boundaries of the position within critical care
* Basic understanding of the patient condition in this setting and its impact on the therapy intervention


Skills

* Experience in liaising with other agencies
* To have knowledge and experience of common conditions in the acute setting and the impact on therapy intervention
* Knowledge and experience in caring for patients with complex conditions
