Job Description
The role of a Gas Service Engineer
To carry out the service, repair, and commissioning of gas appliances, heating systems, and related tasks.
1. The gas engineer attends all allocated service and breakdown calls as per the daily activity worksheet and any additional jobs assigned by the gas admin team or operations manager during working hours.
2. Keep an up-to-date check on all van stock issued at the start of employment and replenish stock from stores the next working day when possible.
3. Ensure all necessary tools and equipment are available to perform assigned tasks; report any damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the gas supervisor.
4. Manage time effectively, be self-motivated, proactive, and confident working independently to ensure first-time fixes.
5. Confidently perform all types of domestic gas testing and commissioning procedures following manufacturer instructions and current regulations.
6. Identify unsafe situations and execute necessary make-safe procedures to protect residents, clients, United Living, the public, and oneself.
7. Complete all required gas certificates, commissioning documents, and job sheets; proficient in using a PDA handheld device.
8. Remain contactable during working hours and update the admin team with all relevant paperwork.
9. Participate in out-of-hours call-out rotations for emergency services as required.
10. Carry out additional overtime when requested by the Gas Operations Manager or supervisor.
11. Maintain excellent customer relations, providing clear instructions and guidance to residents on gas appliances and systems.
12. Handle interactions with residents professionally, including those requiring special care, and maintain a professional image at all times.
13. Mentor apprentices, assist in their training, and provide feedback to the Gas Operations Manager on their progression.
14. Understand health and safety regulations, conduct dynamic risk assessments, and complete relevant documentation such as hot works permits.
15. Complete online learning courses and demonstrate good reading, writing, and communication skills.
Qualifications
Required qualifications for Gas Service Engineers include CCN1, CENWAT, CKR1, with HTR1, MET1, & HWSS (G3) recommended.
Additional Information
Working hours until 5 pm, Monday to Friday, with a 1-hour lunch break. Full uniform and safety equipment are provided.
