Overview
Site Reliability Engineering Professional – join the BT Group Professional Services team. Locations: London, Ipswich or Birmingham. Internal Closing Date: 7/9/25.
What you’ll be doing
* Be accountable for the delivery of routine daily activities for design, build, testing, validation, maintenance, monitoring and ongoing support of network infrastructure components.
* Participate as the technical lead on incidents within the immediate domain and contribute to PIR write-ups and solutions.
* Propose and implement innovations for continuous improvement within the immediate area.
* Execute the implementation of complex changes in line with change management best practices and governance.
* Provide 365x24/7 operational support for faults spanning multiple platform domains (out-of-hours change and callout).
* Manage stakeholder and demand expectations through cross-area engagement.
* Develop technical capability through continued learning and use BT’s learning tools.
* Champion and build effective working relationships, internally and externally, to deliver business outcomes and add value.
* Deliver change execution and assurance of Fixed Network platforms managed by network engineering technology services.
* Collaborate with design & platform teams and support flawless change implementation into the live network, prioritising automation.
* Develop bespoke monitoring solutions to improve network visibility.
* Utilise automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python) to provision and manage infrastructure resources at scale.
* Apply understanding of network principles to troubleshoot faults and optimize performance and security across the infrastructure.
* Be a technical expert who understands the end-to-end journey of customers.
Skills and experience

* Fully conversant with Change Management processes and supporting governance.
* Professional in communicating with stakeholders locally and with Senior Management Team.
* Awareness of end-to-end customer service journeys.
* Ability to adapt to emerging technologies in line with the Technology Career Map.
* Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
* Incident response to resolution.
* Advocated and applied technology where it has not been used previously.

* Experience in a high-pressure operational environment.
* Experience completing changes in a live network and system environment.

Must have
* Experience in an Optical Transmission Environment: Fast-paced setting, managing and troubleshooting large-scale networks.
* Network fundamentals: Transport technology principles (OTN, SDH, WDM).
* Technical proficiency: Understanding of network architecture, design, and implementation.
* Programming proficiency: Python or Ansible (or equivalent).
* Growth mindset: Self-driven attitude towards learning and helping others develop.
* OS administration: Linux, Windows, and other operating systems.
* Automation: Understanding of at least one approach to network automation (e.g., Python, Ansible), familiarity with CI/CD orchestration.
Desirable
* Linux administration focused on performance, security, and automation.
* Vendor hardware expertise (Huawei, Ciena, Nokia).
* Awareness of virtualised environments (VMs & containers).
* Awareness of CI/CD principles.
